NTN Registration – Partnership / AOP
An Association of Persons (AOP) or partnership firm in Pakistan must have a valid National Tax Number (NTN) for legal and tax purposes. The AOP NTN is a 7-digit registration number, such as A634417-7 , assigned by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) after verification of your business information and partner details. This number serves as your unique identification for all tax matters — it’s not a physical certificate but a digital registration identity stored in FBR’s database.
Once registered, your AOP or partnership uses this NTN to file tax returns, maintain compliance, and manage financial dealings under the business name.
What the AOP NTN looks like:
The number consists of 7 digits followed by a single-digit verification code (e.g.,
A634417-7
). It is issued after successful online registration and verification through FBR’s system and is linked to your partnership profile.
Unlike individual taxpayers (where the CNIC often acts as the NTN), partnerships and AOPs are assigned this separate 7-digit number which is used to log in, file returns, and handle correspondence with FBR.
Documents and information required for AOP NTN registration:
To register and maintain an AOP NTN, the following are required:
-
AOP Name: Must match exactly as written in the partnership deed.
-
Partnership Deed: Formal agreement signed by all partners.
-
Details of Partners: Names, CNICs or NTNs, and percentage of ownership for each partner.
-
Authorization Letter: Signed by all partners, authorising one principal partner to handle registration.
-
Business Address Proof: Rent agreement, ownership papers, or utility bill showing business address.
-
Contact Information: Email address and mobile number of the authorised partner.
-
Bank Account Details: Certificate showing the AOP’s business bank account.
-
Utility Bill / Ownership Document: Evidence of business premises tenancy or ownership.
Once your documents are verified, FBR assigns the AOP a 7-digit NTN and updates your firm’s registration in its database. This registration allows you to operate legally, file returns, and fulfil tax obligations.
Note: Obtaining an NTN does not automatically make the AOP a filer — you must file annual income tax returns to appear in the Active Taxpayer List (ATL).
